Happy Birthday to my baby!
05.30.04 (10:56 pm)   [edit]
My daughter was born today, 25 years ago! Happy Birthday sweetie!
I just can't believe it's been a quarter of a century. I'm feeling a little nostalgic... 5 years old-I love her smile in this picture! 15 years old-1st place cheerleading in the Christmas Parade!
Age 22-with Abuela! ...she looks alot like Abuela (age 18--1938)

Yes... Tablet PC's... again!
05.10.04 (10:05 pm)   [edit]
It feels really weird--I haven't blogged in two weeks! With our year round schedule, last week was the end of the year for one of our tracks! Can you believe it? The year is over for 1/3 of our students!!!

I've managed to keep up with my bloglines, though. I'm so glad I did. Today I feel a bit re-energized about my desire to use Tablet PC's in the classroom.

I follow several tablet pc blogs every day. One is Neopoleon.com, blogged by a developer, Rory, who is... well... hilarious! His blog is not the writing you might expect from a developer's blog. He posts cartoons he's drawn on his tablet pc, blogs about his strangely fascinating dreams, his grandmother who quickly figured out how to use a computer he bought her (including email----sheesh, I couldn't even get my mom to use the mouse correctly!) And the hilarious part, well it's the kind of hilarious that makes you laugh out loud and think to yourself, "Oh, that's just not right!" I love it! Reading his blog today reinspired me to look into grants or some way to get my hands on a couple of tablet pc's and try out inkblogging with students.

Our school is located in a community that's crime ridden and poverty stricken. We had a lock down today for 1 hour (gates, offices, and classrooms locked--no one even going to the bathroom) because there was a shooting across the street (the police found one of the involved by following a trail of blood!) Though I work in a tough area, the students here are so bright and creative--it just kills me that they don't have much access to technology. Tablet PC's could make such a difference, specially since most of the kids are second language learners so they could post online without having to write in english with a tablet--they could simply sketch and annotate. Who knows, maybe some of our kids can become future Rorys--I certainly recognize the same no holds barred sense of humor in some of them! That's probably why I love my school and reading Rory's blog. They tell it like it is and I like that.
